Phil Hood Painting

"What is an artist, except one who observes life around oneself and in oneself. The rest is simply technique to acquire the ability to create form and images."

Phil Hood loves 'seeing' things, and since the age of 12 became serious about being an artist. He grew up in a small mining town outside of Tucson, AZ and even worked in a copper mine for 3 years during and after college. This did not satisfy him, so he refined his guitar playing and toured with a professional rock band with his wife and brother during the 70's and 80's.

When not touring, he painted acrylic landscapes and portraits. After his stint in a touring band, Phil worked as an architectural model builder which then developed into models for zoos and aquariums. That in turn developed into creating fake fiberglass trees and rock work for Disney and other companies.

After moving to Independence, MO, Phil then worked on set dressings, commercials, major films and venues. He and his family still play and write music.

"Each avenue I have pursued whether building it or painting it or modeling it, has lent itself to my artwork". Phil is now a full time artist doing murals, acrylic and water color paintings, and enjoys being a "Dog" at the Green Dog Gallery in Englewood, MO.
