From the Examiner.net: Aug. 24th 2011
Its official: Englewood is an arts district.
Applause from residents and business owners broke out Tuesday night following the Independence Planning Commissions unanimous vote for the rezoning of the Englewood Business Association. The designation of 44 properties within the arts district marks the ending of a nearly three-year process that started with the opening of one art space Green Dog Gallery and a subsequent feasibility study.
But according to those who testified in favor of the city of Independence-led application, the arts district designation is just a formality as the area has already embraced the title with its two-year run of Third Friday Art Walks, multiple art galleries and revitalized commercial space.
Green Dog Gallery strives to be a destination to not only view art but cultivate creative talent and study.

The Green Dog Gallery was a great discovery when we visited Independence. I never knew this wonderful mix of various artists and works was located in the Englewood area. I know I will be coming back again.

I studied engineering drafting for two years at Finley College of Engineering.
These studies have been particularly helpful to me for perspective drawing.
I am self-taught and have had no formal art training.
My works have been exhibited at various art shows and galleries in the Independence and Kansas City area.. I have won numerous first, second, third, and honorable mention awards. My work has been well received and has sold quite well. I have sold my art at several charitable silent auctions. Some of my works have been by commission. I have held several workshops on Scratch Board and Pen & Ink. Primarily I work in Pen & Ink, Graphite Pencil and Scratch Board. I currently have my art studio at the Green Dog Gallery in Independence Missouri.
Ron was born and raised in the Kansas City area. Grew up and went to school in Independence, Mo which is the home of our past President Harry S. Truman. Ron grew up going through the ranks of the Boy Scouts and achieving the status of Eagle Scouts.
To me art is expression , history, a brief view into what the creator holds dear.
It is the emotions we have and the emotions we can invoke in other people.
As an artist, I strive to be free in the mediums I use and try new things often.
Ultimately ,I strive to create what feels true to me.
Deborah has lived in Independence most of her life.
She loved art and painting sense she was a child.
As a young mother she worked as a window display designer.
A direct decendent of Northern Cheyenne war chief American Horse, Curtis Heilig's paintings and illustrations reflect that ancestry and proud heritage.
A classically trained artist, Teri studied at the University of St. Mary, in Leavenworth, Kansas. A Masters degree was earned through Central Missouri State University. Her work broke away from a more realistic style.
Teri also does Commisioned Portrits in colored pencils.
In 2005 I discovered I could combine my photography with my polymer clay to create wearable art. Most of my images are my photographs, others from found and collected vintage prints.

Although I have no formal art training I have over the course if my life done works for schools, churches and other organizations. I love vibrant colors. I am interested in a number of artistic mediums, to include acrylic, pen & ink, and pastels. I have done both murals and sculpture. My influences are of course my father Mike Hinojosa, also an artist at The Green Dog, and am captivated by the works of such masters such as Michelangelo Caravaggio, Maxwell Parrish and Andy Warhol.
